Double Double Oily Trouble

I may have mentioned once or twice that my skin type is oily. I feel that there really aren’t a lot of products that are geared toward us greasy gals; however, I have noticed a few more recently. It’s like how three or four years ago there were next to no hair products for curly locks, and now we’re seeing them everywhere. I have hope friends.

I don’t generally wear powders; I just don’t like that powery make-up look. I like to keep my skin as natural looking as possible; however, when I saw the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder I had to give it the old college try. It’s an absolute steal at around $6.

Now, at the ripe old age of 3#@! I know better than to dream of matte skin that lasts all day, I’m a realist you understand, but I do love this powder. I’ve used it pretty much every day since purchasing it and I’m very pleased. While I still have to blot, I definitely find that I’m doing it less often, maybe two or three times a day rather than five or six. What I really love about Stay Matte though is its feather light texture. It’s truly translucent and doesn’t settle into fine lines (not that I have any… perish the thought!).

The only teeny, tiny con about this powder is the packaging. The lid does not stay on well at all so if you’re dropping it in your purse make sure to secure it with an elastic first! Also, it doesn’t come with it’s own applicator, this doesn’t bother me though because I never use those things.

Final verdict? I will definitely be repurchasing this product. I am a die hard fan. You should run right out and grab one now! Go on, do it.

Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Treatment

I have super oily skin. Not run-of-the-mill, a little shiny oily skin, but SUPER oily skin. I use oil absorbing sheets, and mattifying pressed powder to soak up the spills on my t-zone hourly. I’ve tried everything to deal with it: toners, tea tree oil, specially forumlated cleansers, skipping lotion, using extra lotion, oil-absorbing make-up, daily exfoliation… well, you get the idea.

You can imagine my excitement when I heard about Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Treatment. Call me an optimist, but I had high hopes. The Sephora website describes this product thusly: “A breathable, oil-absorbing treatment that minimizes the look of pores and redness while giving skin a smooth, matte finish that lasts throughout the day.” I was excited.

I entered Sephora bubbling over with happiness and chirpily asked one of the lovely sales girls for assistance. She promptly pointed me in the right direction and I zeroed in on my desired product immediately.  Thankfully I had the good sense to ask for a sample before handing over my poor, battered credit card. I don’t often have that much self-control when shopping! This product is an abysmal dissapointment. I’ve been using it faithfully every morning for the last two weeks, and, if anything, my skin actually seems to be more oily than before! Well, colour me bitterly dissapointed!

My advice? Hang on to your $49 (Canadian) and buy a cute top.

Product score out of 10: 3 (only because it smells nice).

Sticky Situation

I have the oiliest skin you’ve ever seen. I’m constantly sopping up slicks on my t-zone with oil absorbing sheets (my favourite ones are made by Bioré). I’ve been told that it’s a good thing, because when I’m old I’ll have young looking skin. Woopie. I want good skin now while I’m still *ahem* young.

I wash my face twice a day with a tea tree oil cleanser. I use a daily exfoliating scrub every morning in the shower. I use a toner, and a little cooling eye gel. I stopped using face cream when I moved to Vancouver because it’s so humid here. With all of these ministrations my skin has become a tad less oily. A tad. The downside, however, is that I often wake up with flaky, over dried skin. Unpleasant. Last night I tried something new. I slathered Morrocan Oil, which I use on my hair (MIRACLE product), all over my face. I left it on for half an hour and then rinsed with warm water.

It felt super greasy on, and it took a lot of self control not to rinse it off immediately. I also somehow managed to get it all over my glasses, what a disaster that was!

The result? I woke up this morning with nary a flake in sight, and dewy, soft skin! I highly recommend giving this a try if you’re finding yourself with over-dried skin. I love a good multipurpose product!
