Seche Vite

Oh hello there. It’s been a while mais oui? My apologies my pets. There has been been some stuff going on, including my beloved cat falling out of my living room window and landing on the pavement three stories down (you can’t make this stuff up). He’s fine but it was upsetting for both of us.

Anyway, I’m back and, if not badder then ever, certainly badder than I was at the beginning of the week!

The blogging world was blowing up (yeah I am definitely cool enough to use that phrase) about Seche Vite awhile ago. It’s a top coat. Shut the front door. I know, I know – kind of boring, but trust me this is something you want to hear about!

Sorry about the poor photo. Turns out a clear bottle is a bit tricky to photograph. I never used to paint my nails because I thought it was a hassle. I do it now about once a week because my nails have turned yellow I really enjoy it. I always mess it up though. You know how it is; you get your nails looking utterly fab and then the phone rings, or the cat jumps on your lap or you find a Cheeto under the couch (never happened). Well no more, Seche Vite claims to be a fast dry top coat and it is. Ludicrously fast. My nails are dry to the touch in about 5 minutes. It’s a little unnerving actually.

It also leaves your nails super shiny. I caused a bit of a fender bender the other day when I waved at everyone in the intersection like the queen. Well, not really but I could. I won’t say that my polish seems to last all the much longer when I use it, but I still think this is a really great top coat.

I picked up this little gem at London Drugs for about $12 (don’t quote me on that) and it’s worth every penny.

Go out and grab a bottle. Right meow. You won’t regret it!

Are you a nail polish junkie?

10 Days of Favourites #4: Nails

For years I never bothered to paint my nails. It just seemed like such a hassle. Now, for some reason, I do it about once a week.

My favourites nail polishes are from Essie for the simple reason that they last the longest. They can be a bit hard to work with; it’s hard to achieve the same opacity on each nail, but it’s worth it to persevere.

From left to right: Mademoiselle, Cute as a Button (my favourite), Play Date, Mint Candy Apple, Chinchilly.

Are you a polish person?

Polky-Dots

Hello! Have you missed me friends? I’ve certainly missed you!

I don’t often polish my nails, because I’m simply too lazy busy. Once in a while I get around to it and, while I do enjoy the way it looks, my nails are usually chipping by the second day. Anyway, I recently aquired a fun purple for sping and wanted to give it a whirl. Down I sat last night with my new bottle of Essie Play Date and went to town.

Essie 2

Essie polishes have received a lot of attention over the last few years and I was anxious to give the brand a try. Play date is a very pretty colour but the brush is small (I love the wide O.P.I. brushes), and the polish does not go on evenly. Some nails required two coats, some only one, and others needed three before the same opacity was achieved on all fingers.

Essie

The finish is nice, not super glossy; however, it’s day one and already the polish is wearing away on the tops of my nails. For $11 I don’t think Essie provides a lot of bang for your buck. It’s too bad because they do have quite a few pretty colours.

Polkadots

Just for fun I finished the look off with some pink O.P.I. (can’t remember the name unfortunately) polkadots!

Have you tried any nail art recently?

Commit Me

I like shopping, you know, the way I like breathing. It’s one of my favourite activities. I like it the way I liked the New Kids on the Block when I was 10 – I went to sleep cuddling my stereo while the boys crooned to me. I like it. A lot.

Here are some of the things I like about it:

1. I have this incredible ability to tune out everything that’s going on around me and browse until I find things that I love. It’s relaxing.

2. I honestly think that when I grab the handles of a carrier bag full of new stuff my brain drowns in a wave of endorphins.

3. I like pretty new things.

4. Shopping makes for great people watching.

5. I love, love, love hanging up new clothes in my closet.

I’ve committed to a shopping ban for the entire month of January. I have to follow through because I’ve said that I’m doing this outloud – to people. I’ve also committed to an alcohol free month. January is going to be so great.

Prepare for some grumpy posts dear readers.

Revlon, a Review, and a Recap

Happy Monday my lovelies! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

I love nail polish but I rarely paint my nails. It just seems like a lot of effort, and I’m kind of anal so the second it chips I have to take it off. That said, as I mentioned in my last post, I had a bunch of girlfriends over on Friday night and we had a nail painting party! We had a great time. Everyone painted their nails, and we all got a little light headed from the fumes! I picked up bottle of Revlon’s Brilliant Strength Nail Enamel in Enrapture just in time for the party. It’s a really pretty plum colour with a bit of gold shimmer. I thought it looked nice and festive; ’tis the season afterall! The brush was nice and wide, which I like, and the polish went on smooth. I applied two coats and topped it off with my Revlon topcoat. I love the way it looks; it’s a beautiful colour for winter. I slapped a bit of sparkly O.P.I. on the ring finger of each hand and voila, there you have it!

Revlon

The polish is starting to wear off a little on the tips of my nails but, apart from that, it’s holding up nicely so far! The price point is around $6 so I’m pretty happy! If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to incorporate a little festivity into your look this polish is a nice way to do it!

Yesterday I attended The Style Common’s Deck Your Closet event at the Four Seasons Hotel. It was a lovely event and my room-mate and I scored some great deals (the best of which was a Michael Kors purse for $50!). As we were leaving to hotel we spotted Jody Claman of The Real Housewives of Vancouver! We asked her for a photo and she was happy to oblige. She was lovely! It was a fun way to end a lovely morning!

How was your weekend?

An Excess of Exclamation Points!!

Happy Friday friends! I’ve got a fun evening planned – a bunch of girlfriends are coming over for an evening of pizza, cupcakes, wine (obvs!), and nail painting! It should be a great girly evening!

Here are some of the nail trends that I’m tempted to try, even though I have no talent for this kind of thing whatsoever!

Glitter tips are so festive!

Ombre hair didn’t really work out for me, maybe I’d have better luck with ombre nails!
