Herbivore

Herbivore is a brand I became aware of a year or so ago when Sephora started carrying their stuff. I was initially attracted to it because of the beautiful and simple packaging. I do judge books by their covers, kittens, and if Herbivore writes a book I’ll be their first customer! I made my first order once I learned a bit more about the brand, namely they don’t test on animals and they use high quality, natural ingredients and none of the nasties like parabens.

I’ve only tried a few of Herbivore’s products but I’ve loved them all.

The first thing I bought was the Coco Rose Body Polish. I loved it. In the colder months I suffer from dry, itchy legs. I used the body polish in the shower a few times a week to slough off the dead skin and it worked like a treat. After moisturizing my legs were all shiny and new and itch free! The jar it comes in is so pretty that I cleaned it out and use it as a tooth brush holder!

Last spring when Mr. P&P and I visited Calgary we spent a day at the zoo (seeing a hippo was amazing!) and both got too much sun. I picked up a bottle of the After Sun Soothing Mist and we doused our sunburned selves in it. It was soothing to the skin and smelled lovely and fresh. I continued to use it as a toner when we got home.

Lastly, I ordered the Jade Facial Roller. Total princess product, I know, but I love it. I store it in the fridge and use it in the evening after applying my serum. It’s relaxing and feels great on the skin. I can’t speak to any wrinkle reduction or anything like that but I can tell you that it is a treat to use. I’ve also been using it when I have a headache and it works wonderfully for that.

Have you tried anything from Herbivore?

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

Clarins

About a month ago I maxed out my Shopper’s Drug Mart optimum points (best reward program ever). Of course I immediately set about spending every single point. Picture a crazed kid in a candy store and you’ll have some idea of what happened.

Anyway, one of the things I picked up is the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. It’s the bomb dot com. I have the shade 03 Red Berry. It’s moisturizing, non-sticky, non-oily (surprisingly), and provides a light sheen of colour. A handbag staple for sure. Plus it smells delish.

The applicator is nice. It’s large and delivers just the right amount of product. The Clarins website describes it as “a cocoon applicator that increases pleasure upon application.” Now, I’m not sure about increasing pleasure (seriously, who writes this stuff?)… but it certainly does the job.

I’m a sucker for nice packaging and I love the square shape and gold lid. It looks luxe. Luxe kittens.

Fall Faves

So last week we had an actual blizzard! I’ve lived North of 60 for the majority of my life and never before have I experienced a bonafide blizzard. It was cray. Anyway, things have calmed down weather-wise and we’re back to crisp and sunny fall days. Fall is my favourite season for fashion. I love me some chunky knits, layers, and boots.

Here are a few of the things I’ve been reaching for over and over this fall.

This gorgeous oversize sweater from Urban Outfitters.

It’s like wrapping myself in an afgan. Delicious.

These Mavi jeans.

It’s all about the details with these babies. The zippers at the ankle, the panels at the knee, the leather pulls on the pocket zipper, and the inky indigo colour add up to the perfect pair of jeans. We all know that perfect jeans are nearly impossible to find!

This Bite Agave Lip Mask in champagne.

Colder weather means dry skin and chapped lips. This lip treatment is super thick and hydrating. You can wear it overnight but it adds a bit of sheen for daytime as well. It’s also a food grade product. You could eat this stuff. You know, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Just. Look. At. That. Luxe rosegold packaging and a built in highlighter for a stunning marbled blush. I mean come on. I die. It gives the cheeks a gorgeous rosy glow. Love.

What are you loving this fall?

Stress Relief

Lately I’ve been looney for lip balms (yes, I am pretty nerdy… in a cool way). I don’t know what it is but my skin, hair, and lips feel completely parched right now. Parched my darlings. Maybe it’s the season or maybe it’s that I’m almost 35 .

*gasp*
*sob*
*hyperventilates into a paper bag*

Ahem. Obviously I’m cool with that.

So anyway, what was I talking about? Right, lip balm. I finally picked up one of the eos lip balms the other day. Everyone was hysterical over these a few years ago, but I’ve always been more of a gloss girl. Well. I’ve been schooled. I chose the scent Strawberry Sorbet and it tastes smells good. I have this incredibly strong urge to bite it in half and chew on it.

eos

It’s very hydrating without being waxy, which is something I often find with lip balms. It’s quite thick, but not in an uncomfortable way. What I’ve been doing is using a stain and then slicking the eos on top of it.

eos Strawberry Sorbet

My favourite thing about this product though is that it’s so satisfying to hold (just when you thought I couldn’t get any weirder). It sounds totally strange but it’s true. It fits perfectly in my hand and it’s just so round and satisfying. It’s like one of those stress release things that you hold in your hand, or the Harmony Balls that were so popular in the 80s or 90s. If I manage to avoid eating it, I’ll definitely be grabbing it on my way to any stressy meetings or dentist appointments.

For about $3 I think it’s totally worth picking one of these up if you’re feeling a little dry.

Have you eaten tried any of the eos lip balms?

Sephora Wish List

I’m on a bit of a wish list kick lately. I’m not sure why that is, but they sure are fun to put together! Now you and I both know that the last thing I need is more make-up, but that doesn’t mean I can’t wish right? Exactly.

So, here is my current Sephora wish list.

1. Soap and Glory

Soap and Glory is really popular with beauty bloggers, and has been for some time. There are a lot more products from this line available in the UK, but we’re starting to see more in Canada. Sephora and Shopper’s Drug Mart are the only places I know of where it’s carried.

I really want to try the Mist You Madly Body Spray, Sugar Crush Body Scrub, and Sugar Crush Body Wash. *swoon*

I used to avoid cream blushes like the plague, but I’m starting to realize that I can wear them. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one in particular.

3. Ojon Rare Blend Oil Total Hair Therapy

I loved the other Ojon Oil I tried and this one is just so friggin’ pretty!

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Tipsy

This is another product that the beauty world is abuzz with and it’s totally worth the hype. I’m trying to get away from pink blush and I think this orange-coral shade is fun.

5. Marc Jacobs Honey

Every time I walk through Sephora (just casually and for no particular reason) I just have to take a squirt of this. I know everyone and their brother has probably bought it but it’s so nice.

So there you have it! What’s on your beauty wish list?

Chocolate Yum Yums

I’m not generally a chocolate loving girl. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the odd square or three, but if it’s a choice between a chocolate bar and a salty snack, salt wins every time. My favourite thing to have for dessert is chips. I’ve seriously considered setting up a salt lick in my bedroom. All that saltiness aside though, I am currently completely addicted to the Body Shop’s Chocomania Beautifying Oil.

The Body Shop

Holy crap you guys, this stuff is unbelievable! The Body Shop nails their scents every time. This oil smells like high quality chocolate. It’s not at all sickly or fake, unlike the scents from  Bath and Body Works some other retailers.  Once it’s on the skin the scent really lasts as well, but it’s not overpowering. Another great thing about this product is that it’s multi-purpose! You can use it on your body, your hair, and your face! So far I’ve only used it on my arms and legs but I will definitely try it out on my hair.

Verdict? GO GET YOURSELF A BOTTLE! It’s on sale right now!

Balea

I do a face mask, oh I don’t know, once every three years or so. So when I finally get around to doing one I like to make a bit of an event out of it. This means a glass of wine, a hot bath, and a man with those sexy v-muscles in his abs feeding me grapes, you know, the usual. Or maybe I just slap it on my face and lie on my bed reading until it dries. I can’t really remember, it was last week after all.

The mask I used wasn’t one of those peel-off ones that lets you pretend to be Hannibal Lector as you take it off, but it was still pretty fun (modest sort of playing-scrabble-with-your-grandma fun). I used the Balea Oil Removing Mud Face Mask. I did scrunch my face up a few times, the feeling of the mud cracking and showering off of your face is kind of satisfying…

Balea Face Mask

The mask is quite thick, it won’t slide off your face as you apply it. A little goes a long way as well so you can get a few uses out of the packet. When first applied the mask stung my face a little, maybe because it has tea tree oil in it? The stinging didn’t last long though. I left it on for about 15 minutes and then removed it with a warm face cloth. The big thing I have to say about this mask is that my skin felt really clean after using it. Clean in a way that I never feel, not even when I’ve just stepped out of the shower. My blackheads seemed a little less noticeable, and my skin didn’t feel dry or tight. All in all I’d say I would definitely use this mask again. I purchased it at Shopper’s Drug Mart and, while I don’t remember the exact price, I do know it was cheap.

Ambrosia

Pacifica is a truly lovely line of products that a friend introduced me to a few years ago. It’s a collection of body butters, lotions, perfumes, candles, and body washes with scents that are to die for. It’s all natural, and free from all of those nasty chemicals we hear so much about. It’s kind of hard to find, Whole Foods carries it along with a handful of other specialty boutiques. It can also be purchased directly from the website, and of course, via eBay. I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when I found it at a variety store here in lovely Vancouver, and at a fraction of the usual rather spendy prices!

I picked up a bottle of the Indian Coconut Nectar body wash for about $10. This stuff is just gorgeous. The scent is a combination of coconut and vanilla, DELISH. It’s described on the back of the bottle as ambrosia (nectar of the gods, thank you Google!) and I’d say that hits the nail directly on the head. It works up to a nice creamy lather, and leaves your skin lightly scented. It’s perfect for summer, light, and fresh.

Have you tried out anything by Pacifica?

Drugstore Faves

Hello! Did you think I’d died? Well, excellent news: I am alive! I moved to a new apartment about a week ago (LOVE it) and that kept me pretty busy for a while there. I also just needed a bit of a breather – you know? I’ve been feeling pretty stressed lately, and without going into a lot of gory detail, it’s taken a bit of a toll on me.

Anyway, I’m back and badder than ever. Today’s post is a little different but I think some of you will appreciate it. I’m going to talk about some drugstore favourites. A few of these are products that I’ve talked about before, but I’m mentioning them again so you can reference them all together mmmmmmmmkay?

1. Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butters

I’m on my second one of these bad boys and I love it as much as the first. I’m not often a repeat customer because I like to try new things, but I’m a devotee of these lip butters for life. The colours are gorgeous, the formula is moisturizing, light, and non-greasy. The price point is also a little bit of alright. They’re usually priced at under $10.

You can read my full review here.

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

I could wax lyrical about this stuff for days. I first discovered it over on Katelyn’s blog and am I ever glad I decided to give it a whirl. I find most powders too heavy looking for my taste, but as a greasy gal I kind of need it. This stuff is light, and just a dusting gives me a little extra oil free time (we’re not talking hours here but it certainly helps a lot). I’m on my second pan of this stuff as well!

You can read my full review here.

3. Quo Facial Blotting Tissue

I’ve tried a lot of blotting tissues. A LOT. I’ve tried Biore (kind of weird and plasticky), The Body Shop blotting papers (too powdery), and Sephora brand blotting papers (too spendy) and I always come back to the Quo Facial Blotting Tissues. They are quite thin, which I like. I can do my entire face with two sheets. They’re about $6 which is a pretty fair price. There’s not a whole lot to say about these but they’re cheap, effective, and should be part of every oily girl’s arsenal. The Quo brand is exclusive to Shopper’s Drug Mart.

4. Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick

As I’ve said before, I love me a bold lip. Nothing finishes off an outfit like a bright pop of colour on your kisser. I’ve tried a lot of different reds but my favourite, by far, is from Gosh. It stays put friends. This is a lippy that’s going to last through an evening of debauchery fun. It goes on a little glossy but leaves your lips with a good stain of colour as it wears away. This is a lipstick that does not have to be reapplied. It’s so great that when I lost my first one, I went out the next day and replaced it.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

I’m a bit of a mascara junkie, never leave home without it. The Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (it’s the pink and green one) is such a classic. I love its tiny brush, which is also great for using on your itty bitty bottom lashes. It’s not clumpy, doesn’t flake, and stays where you put it. For about $6 this mascara is an absolute steal of a deal.

What are some of your drugstore faves?

My little bottle of miracle oil

Ok y’all, I am a curly haired lass. That means that I hate my hair, and I always have. I have never wanted anything more than I want long, swishy, straight hair. Alas, it is not meant to be. I’ve recently (within the last two or three years) started coming to terms with the fact that I’m never going to wake up and have straight hair. That means that I have started trying to work with my hair rather than attempting to beat it into straight submission. For the first time in my life I have a really fantastic (read “expensive”) hair cut, and it makes a huge difference. The other thing that makes a difference is product. I’ve tried all kinds, high end, as well as drug store buys. Some of my favourites include Potion 9 by Sebastian, an AG leave-in conditioner, and Morrocan Oil.

The first time I used Morrocan Oil I was floored. My hair had movement; those of you with curls know what I’m talking about. Each curl was defined, shiny, and bouncy. It was a happy day. The thing about Morrocan Oil is the price point. It’s spendy my friends. Moving to Vancouver meant taking a HUGE pay cut (if I think about it too much I start to feel a bit sick), and since chopping my locks I’ve actually found Morrocan Oil to be a touch too heavy. I’ve tried a couple of drugstore alternatives with no luck, but I eventually stumbled upon the Ojon damage reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum. I think a full size bottle is around $30 but I got mine for “free” in exchange for 100 Sephora rewards points.

20130507_203913

Unfortunately the first time I used it I managed to dump half the bottle all over the bathroom counter (sob); however, a little of this stuff goes a loooong way so it’ll last a good long while. What we have here folks is a holy grail product. This stuff is amaze-balls. I use two drops and it’s more than enough for my entire mop. I rub it betwixt my palms, smooth it into wet hair, shake, and go! Fantastic! Each curl is defined, holds its shape, and is nice and shiny. I luuuurve this stuff.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a good alternative to Morrocan Oil? Have you tried this oil?
