Fall Faves

So last week we had an actual blizzard! I’ve lived North of 60 for the majority of my life and never before have I experienced a bonafide blizzard. It was cray. Anyway, things have calmed down weather-wise and we’re back to crisp and sunny fall days. Fall is my favourite season for fashion. I love me some chunky knits, layers, and boots.

Here are a few of the things I’ve been reaching for over and over this fall.

This gorgeous oversize sweater from Urban Outfitters.

It’s like wrapping myself in an afgan. Delicious.

These Mavi jeans.

It’s all about the details with these babies. The zippers at the ankle, the panels at the knee, the leather pulls on the pocket zipper, and the inky indigo colour add up to the perfect pair of jeans. We all know that perfect jeans are nearly impossible to find!

This Bite Agave Lip Mask in champagne.

Colder weather means dry skin and chapped lips. This lip treatment is super thick and hydrating. You can wear it overnight but it adds a bit of sheen for daytime as well. It’s also a food grade product. You could eat this stuff. You know, if you’re into that kind of thing.

This Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat.

Just. Look. At. That. Luxe rosegold packaging and a built in highlighter for a stunning marbled blush. I mean come on. I die. It gives the cheeks a gorgeous rosy glow. Love.

What are you loving this fall?

Get More from Your Wardrobe

One Piece Three Ways

I have a few rules when shopping:

1. Don’t drink and shop (I’ll never forget the regrettable sweater incident of 2011);

2. Don’t shop on an empty stomach, you want to be thinking clearly;

3. Don’t buy a piece unless you can visualize it with three distinct outfits using items you already have in your wardrobe.

The last rule is important because you don’t want to end up with a fantastic top that works only one way. Who wants to be seen in the same look over and over again? Not I.

So friends, I give you a new post: One Piece Three Ways.

The piece:

Sunnies: Barefoot Contessa
Beach Bag: Bath and Bodyworks (gifted)
Sandals: American Eagle Outfitters
Bikini: Victoria’s Secret

These are just a few of the looks I can create with this romper. I could also add tights, boots, and a sweater for winter or pair it with a skirt and wear it as a top. The possibilities are endless. If you don’t have a romper, swap it out for a sundress! This is just a small sample of the ways you can create unique looks by changing the accessories.

Do you think about versatility when you’re shopping? I’d love to hear your tips!

Simons

I’m a self-proclaimed online shopping expert. It’s a survival skill that I developed during my years and years living in the frozen Yukon, where shopping opportunities are nil unless you’re willing to pay an arm and a leg.

One of my all time faves is Simons. I’ve been a loyal customer of theirs for about 7 years now and they’ve never once let me down. Simons is only available in Quebec but they started up an online shop about 5 years ago and am I ever glad!

I’m loyal to Simons for a number of reasons.  The quality of the clothing is always excellent; they carry a range of brands/designers priced from outright steals to much spendier options; the sizes are bang on; the shipping is exceptionally prompt; and they’re Canadian! What’s not to love?

I’ve waxed lyrical about Simons’ virtues in the past, read that post here.

101

For weeks I’d been planning on doing something special for my 100th post. I had all kinds of ideas ranging from a give away (unfortunately for you my pets, I’m always low on pennies…. can’t imagine why), to a tutorial (who am I to give advice though??), to a monthly favourites post. Well, yesterday’s was my 100th post and I celebrated by completely forgetting about it. Typical Poutine behaviour.

Make-up

Without further ado, I give you Poutine and Prada’s 101st post: the bloggers who inspire me! These blogs are where I spend my days (you know, when I’m not working and such), and I’ve been inspired by them all in different ways! If it weren’t for these lovely bloggers there would be no Poutine and Prada (can you imagine?)!

In no particular order:

The Anthology
It must be the voyeur in me but I love The Anthology’s Workspace posts.

Alicia Fashionista
This gal is fabulous, fashionable, and also very close to my size! I find a lot of outfit inspirations here, as well as some great make-up looks, and general fun!

The Skinny Blonde Girl
When I first stumbled across Katelyn’s blog, I didn’t think she could teach me much because she’s only 21. I was mistaken! This is a blogger with a great sense of style and self! Check her out for outfit ideas, and honest reviews.

Prairie Girl in the City
I love this blog because Jennifer is in her 30s, celebrates style at all sizes, and she just seems like a super classy dame!

A Fashion Love Affair
Cara’s style is simple, classic, and exactly what I aspire to!

Tinfoil Tiaras
This is another blog that I felt wouldn’t really speak to me at first, but I quicked realized that Emily is a lovely person with a big heart, and an even bigger closet! If you’re looking for fashion on a dime, this blog is a must see.

The Dauphine
This blog is mostly about make-up and is filled with some absolutely gorgeous photography.

So there you have it! This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I encourage you to visit my daily reads list for more fantastic blogs! There’s something in the blogosphere for everyone so get out there and start reading!

Do you have any favourite blogs you’d like to share?

Yesterday I went shopping with a few school chums. It was a typical girls’ day: lunch followed by hours of pounding the pavement on Robson. We stopped at Zara and all three of us tried on a few things. I found a really cute, orange summer dress and liked it but needed one size bigger — a large. When I asked the somewhat snooty sales girl to grab me a large I was informed that the dress only comes in small or medium, like many other items in the store.

I was flabbergasted! I’m not plus sized by any stretch of the imagination and large is a completely average size! I had a brief glimpse into the world of plus sized women, and I did not enjoy it. I have to wonder who these designers are designing for because it’s certainly not the average North American woman!

Has this ever happened to you?
